Our Motor Engineers

About Our Motor Engineers

Our experienced motor engineers, Justin and David, are more than straightforward car mechanics. They are car enthusiasts with analytical brains who love getting to the bottom of any motor vehicle problem.

Justin and David have a wall full of qualifications and our newest motor engineer, Lukasz, passed his level three motor technician City & Guilds in 2022. Read on to find out more about the team.

All our motor engineers have a great skill for explaining complicated problems in easy to understand terms. You won’t get any confusing car jargon from them. Unless you really want it of course.

Justin Dyke, Director and Motor Engineer

Justin is a director of VFR Motor Services and has worked his whole life in the motor trade. Starting from school on motorcycles and moving to car mechanics at Garrick Motors. Justin did his apprenticeship at Garrick Motors with Rick Hallam and Garth West.

Justin has 26 years hands on experience in the motor trade. Your vehicle couldn’t be in safer hands.

Justin has a huge number of qualifications up on the wall in the VFR Motors office. He has studied and passed City and Guilds examinations to level three.

Justin is a huge Liverpool FC fan. His passion for the club is the reason our office was painted red. His other passion is track day driving and his car is a Mitsubishi GTO, red, of course! He has spent hours and hours fettling (preparing) this car for track day.

David Hands, Senior Technician and Motor Engineer

David is our senior technician who particularly loves the computing side of modern cars. David also did his apprenticeship at Garrick Motors with Garth and Rick. Because they trained with the same mentors, Justin and David work extremely well together. Sometimes it’s like one person with four hands in our workshop!

David has also studied and passed City and Guilds examinations to level three.

David is also a Liverpool FC fan, but is less vocal about it than Justin. David has an exceptional analytical mind who loves to build, mend. He was that child who took everything to pieces to see how it worked and always managed to put it back together again.

Richard Wood, Director

Richard is not a motor engineer but he is a life time car enthusiast. Richard and Justin have know each other since Justin’s time at Garrick Motors. Richard and Justin set up VFR Motor Services together in 2011 after Justin approached Richard for advice about setting up on his own. They decided to go into business, and VFR Motor Services was born.

Justin is responsible for the hands on side of VFR Motor Services and Richard takes on the business side of things. Richard has many years’ business experience in the Leicester area. He and his brother, Michael, ran Woods Butchers in Clarendon Park for 50 years until 2018.

Richard loves a classic car. You can read all about his Moggy on our blog. He has been lucky enough to own several classic motors over the years including: the Morris Minor, a 1975 Lancia, and an 80s Metro.

He is also still a keen motor cyclist and often goes touring around Europe on his Honda with his son and friends.

Lukasz Urbanowicz, Motor Engineer

Lukasz originally came to us on work experience as part of his Motor Engineering course and impressed us all with his work ethic and thirst for knowledge. He’s keen as mustard and a very well-mannered young man. Lukasz has integrated into the VFR Motors team beautifully and is now officially the VFR Motors motor engineer.

Lukasz passed his level three City & Guilds motor technician in 2022.

Lukasz wants to become a motor mechanic because he is interested in how things work. He enjoys taking things apart to see how they work, mending them, and then putting them back together.

Lukasz is a fluent Polish speaker which will be a great asset for any of our Polish-speaking customers.
